Song: Smells LIke Teen Spirit
Artist: Nirvana
Moment: Sophomore (junior??) year of high school. It was middle of winter, crisp and cool like it has been in recent days. It was relatively late, and my galpals and I met a group of friendly boys at Denny's (the ultimate hangout for all us poseurs), who proceeded to invite us to go and hang out at Leeper Park. Never mind it was 15 degrees out. I remember getting the mom conscience {a bit late...already en route in Natalie's parents' Volvo} and asking the girls if it was a wise idea to go along to a park in the middle of the night with a bunch of boys we had just met. The girls thought it was ok; the boys seemed harmless. So we went. I think Nirvana's album was still kind of new at that point, and the boys were playing it on continuous loop in their car's tape player (yes, this was well before CDs were readily available for all). The boys were indeed harmless, there was lots of leaping, swinging, and running among the ducks and their frozen pond, and we stayed great friends with them (weekly meetups at the Midnight Sun for more posing and "dancing" to alternateen tunes) until we graduated from high school. Is it terrible I can't recall any of their names but one (Brandon Northam), who was cute but ended up kind of screwing over one of our friends, as teenaged boys are sometimes wont to do?

Sigh. High school life was so carefree! We were all so very innocent.
